How does a normal day start? The day starts with me catching up with emails and checking in with the team.
What is your role? I’m responsible for leading the SEND Team in the Lichfield District.
Why did you join Staffordshire County Council? I joined Staffordshire County Council because I thought working within the local authority would open up new opportunities and offer career progression and it has!
What might people not know about working at the council? That there’s a wide variety of people that we work with and everyday can be different.
What do you do in your role? As a Family Practitioner Lead I lead and support my team of SEND Keyworkers to ensure that children and young people are able to access a suitable education to meet their needs
What is your typical day? A typical day involves contributing to decision making meetings, ensuring that my team are well supported, liaising with parents, and education, health and care professionals.
What’s been your most memorable moment so far? Hearing that a young person with an EHC has been successful in education journey.
What’s the worst part of your role? Sometimes I have to communicate difficult decisions.
What’s the best part of your role? I work with some really lovely people and I always feel well supported.
What would you do if you didn’t do this role? If I didn’t do this I’d probably be working for a National Trust Property.
What advice would you give someone considering a career in SEND? Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure as although there’s a lot to learn, there’s always plenty of advice and support available here at Staffordshire so you’re not alone.
