What is your role? As a Social Care Assessor I am daily assessing individuals needs to see where I can help and support them and also having a positive impact on people’s lives, signposting, making referrals, putting in care, respite for a carer, dealing with carers assessment to our young carers.

Why did you join Staffordshire County Council? After growing up and living my whole life in Wolverhampton, I got married and moved to Stafford in 2019, it was a new experience moving to Stafford and it was over whelming.

I was new to the area and surroundings, I applied to work for Staffordshire County Council so I could get to know my new home and surroundings better. I learnt a lot about Staffordshire and the county, I felt more warmer to what I now call my home.

I started working for the customer services within the contact centre at Staffordshire Cares, where I grew my fountain of knowledge in social care. Once I built my foundation, and gained experience I knew I wanted to help people make a positive change in their lives and promote independence. I’ve always wanted to help people and I have a passion to make a positive impact on people’s lives. I applied to adult first contact to be a social care assessor.

What is the best part of your job? The job itself gives me a sense of satisfaction knowing that I can make a difference to families, communities, service users and carers. Providing guidance and support to families, communities, service users.

What might people not know about working in the council? Working for Staffordshire County Council allows me to be flexible within my day-to-day job and my personal life. I can work and spend time socialising with my family and friends which is important to me

What advice would you give someone considering a career as a Social Care Assessor? Don’t think you are not capable. If you have a caring nature and enjoy varied work this could be the role for you!
